MUCKWA PROGRAM NOW IN EAU CLAIRE!!

February 2026

We are excited to share an important update about our mental health day treatment program. As part of our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving needs of the community, we are updating both the name of our program and the age range of individuals we serve. Effective February 2026, our program will operate under the new name: Muckwa Program (formerly Migisi Program)

Muckwa is the Ojibwe word for “black bear.” In Ojibwe teachings, the bear is often associated with strength, healing, courage, and protection.

By choosing Muckwa, we aim to create a program identity that reflects hope, healing, and the cultural values of respect and wellness. The name is a reminder that every person carries their own inner strength, and that with guidance and support, healing is possible.

This name change reflects our continued dedication to providing high-quality, person-centered mental health services while expanding our ability to support individuals in a way that better aligns with current community needs. In addition, after careful evaluation and ongoing feedback from local families, providers, and community partners, we are adjusting our age requirements.

Beginning February, 2026 the program will serve individuals ages 8 to 13. This change allows us to more effectively focus our resources, address the most urgent service gaps in our area, and ensure that the individuals we support receive the highest level of therapeutic care. Please know that these changes will not affect the quality or continuity of care for current participants who fall within the new age range.

Our team is available to speak individually with any families who may be impacted by this transition and to assist with referrals or care coordination as needed. We remain deeply grateful for your trust and partnership. Our mission continues to center on fostering emotional wellness, building resilience, and supporting youth and families in our community. We believe these changes will strengthen our capacity to serve you well.

Please note, the treatment team / staff will remain the same for the Muckwa program.

VISIT FROM SENATOR JESSE JAMES

May, 2024

Senator Jesse James on the MFHS Mikan Day Treatment Program

Last week I took a MENTAL HEALTH DAY around Eau Claire, including visiting Marriage & Family Health Services Ltd. to learn more about what they do. Check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCA-zF0wN7Q&t=6s

This awesome staff runs a day program for kids and teens, where they utilize group therapy and creativity to help kids who have been traumatized and who are in need of coping skills.

I asked them what helps them find success, especially with the teens. They shared:

1) no phones allowed!

2) allowing the youth to keep each other accountable

3) being fair, firm, and consistent every day to win their trust.

Amazing. Keep up the good work.

-State Senator Jesse James
